- Welcome to Winfile 2.0
-
- WinFile is an intuitive personal Windows database
- manager for storing, retrieving and printing free-form text
- information. WinFile remembers the name of its last database,
- dimensions, font, color scheme, and other settings between
- sessions. WinFile's features include random text search, phone
- dial, add item, discard item, update item, date stamp, and
- cursor toggle. The program displays Windows fonts and prints
- them if supported by your printer.
-
- Each WinFile entry or record can contain up to 2048
- characters, and the maximum number of records in a single
- database can be in the thousands! WinFile automatically backs
- up your database at five-minute intervals and names each backup
- with the extension BK!. Version 2.0 includes enhancements and
- bug fixes, including clock updating and saving of date/time
- option, addition of abort call menu item, prompts to alert user
- for possible action whenever the main text window changes, and
- improved modem hangup sequence.
-
- System Requirements
-
- WinFile requires an IBM-compatible 386/486 20+ MHz PC
- running Windows 3.1 (or WFWG) with a VGA or better color
- monitor, a hard disk, mouse, and an optional Hayes-compatible
- modem with a connected telephone. Without a modem, all of
- WinFile's features work except the telephone dialing function.
-
- WinFile 2.0 Files in WNFL2.ZIP (9 Files)
-
- WFILE.EXE - The main executable file for WinFile
- WFILE.HLP - The WinFile on-line help file
- WFILE.TXT - This text file containing information
- and installation instructions
- CMDIALOG.VBX - A required support file used by
- WinFile's common dialogs
- CTL3D.DLL - A required dynamic link library used
- for 3-D dialogs and messages
- THREED.VBX - A required support file needed for the
- 3-D status bar
- MSCOMM.VBX - A required communications support file
- EMEDIT.VBX - A required support file used for input
- and output and searching
- EMEDIT.LIC - A required license file used by EMEDIT.VBX
-
- Installing WinFile
-
- The file CTL3D.DLL should be copied to your Windows
- system subdirectory. All other files should be copied to a
- single directory or subdirectory reserved for WinFile, e.g.,
- C:\WFILE. It is essential that EMEDIT.LIC be on the same
- directory as EMEDIT.VBX. In addition, you must have the Visual
- Basic 3.0 run-time module, VBRUN300.DLL, in your Windows system
- subdirectory. VBRUN300.DLL is available from CompuServe and
- most BBSs.
-
- WinFile is launched by running WFILE.EXE. After WinFile
- is loaded, a configuration file WFILE.INI is created in the same
- directory as WFILE.EXE. All databases used by WinFile have the
- extension WNF and must be in the WinFile directory. When first
- loaded, WinFile creates a default database called OMNI.WNF.
-
- Care should be taken in setting up your WinFile color
- scheme to ensure that selected text is highlighted in WinFile's
- main window. The backcolor of WinFile's main window should contrast
- with both the forecolor AND the highlight color for your system
- as set by Window's Control Panel. For example, if you want WinFile's
- backcolor to remain black (default) and the forecolor text white
- (default), be sure that Control Panel is set to some other,
- contrasting color (like red) for the highlight setting. This will
- make it easy to see search text highlighted in each entry and the
- selected telephone numbers that you highlight before dialing.
